We are very pleased to announce the chance to change our community through the AmeriCorps program in partnership with United Way of Greenville County, United Way of Pickens County, Furman University, and the Center for Community Services.

We are looking for qualified candidates for the position of Assets Attainment Counselor to help the community reach financial success and prepare youth for the future through the Financial Independence program, Career Skills program. AmeriCorps members receive a stipend and, when the program is successfully completed, an education award.

AmeriCorps is an opportunity to make a big difference in your life and in the lives of those around you. It’s a chance to apply your skills and ideals toward helping others and meeting critical needs in the community.  Each year, AmeriCorps offers 75,000 opportunities for adults of all ages and backgrounds to serve through a network of partnerships with local and national nonprofit groups. Whether your service makes a community safer, gives a child a second chance, or helps protect the environment, you’ll be getting things done through AmeriCorps!

The Greenville and Pickens County collaborative – AmeriCorps United – will provide support, training and resources to well over 3,500 Upstate citizens. The collaborative will provide support for two areas of emphasis: financial independence and career skills development. The ability for low-wage earners to access benefits, save money toward building assets, develop new job skills, and receive eligible tax benefits, begins the journey to financial independence. This process should begin early in one’s life so that middle and high school students can begin building skills that put them on track toward a career and/or college.

To join in this effort, submit a cover letter and resume via e-mail to americorps@unitedwaygc.org by July 2.  Please include the title of the position for which you want to be considered and list Center for Community Services as your preferred agency/location.  For more information, including the position description, go to the United Way website at www.unitedwaygc.org.
